As a teacher, I am focused on creating learners inside and outside the classroom. To do this well, you must be skilled in many areas. In my classroom, I can be an assessor, a facilitator, an observer, a cheerleader, or a helper. It depends on the student and the situation.The groundwork for effective learning is the environment. It must be safe, have established norms, showcase positive behavior, and provide many opportunities for open expression. You must also have parent involvement. I work hard to be visible and accessible, and I communicate frequently with my kids' parents. In class, I have found that using thematic units creates a highly effective construct to dive deep into content and connect it with other subject areas. The more engaged a child is, the better they learn.I believe in using hands-on learning via manipulatives, technological learning via computers and tablets, traditional paper and pencil work, guided group work, and collaborative partner work. I have found that this combination of methods helps get the most of the child's attention span.My students are held accountable for being responsible, respectful, and safe. My management techniques focus almost exclusively on positive reinforcement, providing students with the responsibility and opportunity to make decisions that will set them up for success.
